Local authorities already record all or almost all the data required by the Cost Calculator. Most also carry out or would like to carry out some of the analyses provided by the Calculator. Like all tools, it takes some practice to develop the skills to use it to full advantage.
The child and placement data you submit for the SSDA 903 returns can be directly imported to the Cost Calculator. Other data can be appended when they are available.
The Cost Calculator takes an incremental approach to costing, providing you with research-based average costs until such time as you are ready to carry out your own customised unit costing exercise. Also, the Cost Calculator need not be used initially for all children. You can choose just to focus on a particular group (e.g. children with disabilities, or children in residential placements).
The CCfCS team is committed to providing on-going support and developing a user community to share learning, experience, problem-solving and best practice. Licensed Users are invited to attend an annual User Meeting.
